The Foundation Stage Dolphins

Our classrooms and class structure:

The foundation stage is accommodated in two single rooms with adjoining partition which is always open. Each room has 2 toilets and washbasins, there is also a sink. Each classroom has an external door which leads to a fenced outside classroom and an internal door which leads to the library and the rest of the school.

We plan a learning environment both indoors and outdoors, which encourages a positive approach to learning. We use materials and equipment that reflect both the community that the children come from and the wider world. Having a variety of adult initiated and child initiated activities encourages the children to become independent learners, whilst adult led activities allow the Foundation Stage team to focus on particular areas of learning.

Classes will be parallel with an equal mixture of children with regards to age and gender wherever possible. In normal circumstances  we have open plan classrooms so the children have lots of opportunities to mix both inside and outside. At this time the Grey and Pink Dolphins must remain in their own bubble however we are awaiting guidance from the local authority and Government to the setup proposed from September 2021.
We have small classes of 22 or 23 pupils in each room.
Classes are usually determined after the first play afternoon. However, given this year’s circumstances we will use the section in the Journeying Together book in which parents are encouraged to identify two particular friend requests. We endeavour to ensure that each child is with one of their requested friends.

We will notify you which class your child will be in via email the week beginning 31st June.

Our Curriculum

The Baseline Assessment measures a child's ability in reading and mathematics upon entry into the school. This is completed within the first few weeks of your child starting school.

The new Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum comes into force in September 2021. This is the statutory curriculum for the year, progress of the Early Learning Goals is reported at the end of the academic year.

Mrs Jodie Philp

Welcome to Ingatestone Infant School and the Foundation Stage Dolphins. I am currently the Foundation Stage Leader and Deputy Headteacher of the school. I have spent many years in the Foundation Stage and truely believe it is one of the most important years in a child's Primary education. I teach the Grey Dolphins with the support of Mrs Satchell

Miss Sophie Anderton

Hi, I am Miss Anderton and I am the class teacher in the Pink Dolphins. I am lucky enough to have started my teaching career here as a student 6 years ago and was thrilled to join the Dolphin team once I qualified. I couldn't have asked for a better team to have joined as I feel, as a team, we all possess those important qualities needed for that important first year at school.
